The island of Krk is rich in diverse flora and fauna.
In the evening it is possible to come across a black scorpion, please do not touch it. Black scorpions are not dangerous, but they can sting. The sting has about the toxicity of a wasp sting.
Spiders and centipedes are beneficial insects. It is not recommended to touch them because they have a bite that can be painful.
There are two types of venomous snakes; adder and viper, which you will see very rarely, are very shy. However, in order to stay safe, do not put your hands in the cavities of the natural stone walls that are typical of the island, these are their natural habitats.
In the last 10 years, no accidents with snakes have been recorded, and snake serum is always available in clinics.
In the immediate and wider surroundings of the island, there are numerous authentic taverns where they will serve you good food. You can use the German language well on almost the entire island. We have prepared for you a list of recommended places that we have visited ourselves.

Excellent high-quality honey is harvested on the island, which is offered by a beekeeper in Rasopasno, 50 meters from the church.
It is worth going to Rijeka in the morning. There is a stunning fish market and a large fruit and vegetable market. The goods offered there are usually regional and of high quality. Don’t be afraid to buy seafood and fish at the market, the quality and freshness will surprise you.
There is a market in the town of Krk that is open on Friday mornings, and we also recommend it.
On the island, we recommend trips to various beautiful medieval towns (Krk, Malinska, Vrbnik, Baška and many others), as well as one-day trips across the bridge along the main road to Split. In the mountains in the hinterland there are many authentic villages and landscapes to discover.
We also recommend additional trips by ferry to the islands of Cres and Mali Lošinj.

We wish you a relaxing and wonderful vacation and lots of fun discovering the island of Krk.
Yours Sanela, Robert and Josephine Kolak
